The structure and function of the RNA molecules is affected by secondary base modifications on RNA, such as m5C. This publication in JOVE, the world’s leading peer-reviewed scientific video journal describes a method to enrich  methylated RNA and identify modified transcripts (MeRIP-seq).

The method can be used for any organism and the methylated area can be narrowed down to a few nucleotides.
